Types of Fasts 

Complete Fast (Total)

  • No food or water
  • No more than three days and nights (Exodus 34:28; Ezra 8:21; 10:6; Esther 4:16; Acts 9:8-9)

Normal Fast

  • No food
  • Plenty of water (Matthew 4:2; Luke 4:2)

Daniel Fast (Partial)

  • No pheasant meat
  • Vegetables and water (Daniel 10:2-3; 1 Kings 17:15-16; Matthew 3:4)
  • Foods to avoid: meat, caffine, sugar substitutes, white rice, carbonated beverages, foods containing preservatives or additives, white flour and all products using it, margarine, shortening, high fat products, fried foods, refined sugar.

Group Fast (Corporate)

  • Nineveh - Jonah 3:5-10
  • Ezra - Ezra 8:21
  • Esther - Esther 4:15-17
  • Jehoshaphat - 2 Chronicles 20:1-4
  • Joel - Joel 1:13-14; 2:12-17
